Path Less Travelled – Fine Art Print

The latest in the “Yellow Umbrella” series, this painting is both lighter and darker than my previous works. It depicts the girl with the umbrella at the end of a path, having walked through a dark forest. She is still happily holding her umbrella, a symbol of protection, and I’d like to think the forest is something she is proud to have conquered. This is one of my favourite works.

Marnie Higgs Art

I have newly discovered my love of watercolour painting, after buying a $20 set of watercolours and two paintbrushes to take into hospital with me when I was being treated for severe depression and anxiety in November 2016.

After two weeks I picked up the paintbrush and started to paint. Prior to this I had shown no artistic ability, so I shocked myself and my family when I started to produce work after work. Possibly the location, possibly the time in my life, or maybe just for the first time I had something to express… my paintings expressed a whimsical side, and also some very emotive themes.
